The Josie & the Gremlin Blog

by Josie Cotton

Not everyone has a gremlin like mine. He is pushy-mouthed, skitttish, DEMANDING, annoying, relentless and, unfortunately, life-changing. He is the embodiment of my panic disorder, chronic anxiety and OCD-tendencies. The little fella lives in my brain. He won't come out. Thirty-plus years of trying and there he is. Burrowed down deep in my life, controlling entirely too much of it for any moderately sane soul.

So, since I can't get him out with doctors or meds (luckily I CAN dampen him to bearable levels at least), I am open about the wee-devil. I let him and his ugly tail and forked feet hang out for all the world to see.

In my art, as in my writing, my mental illness is a monstrous influence. There are highs, lows, chuckles and angry, messy tears. In this blog, I hope to share with you a little glimpse of trying to make a career as an abtract artist... with a gremlin by my side.

Fair warning: neither of us know what we're doing here in the art world. Wish us all luck!
